Win a Photoshoot at Bombshell HQ

Last year I sent a shout out looking for a Bombshell. Hundreds of entries poured in. So I think it’s about time we held another one.

Meet Sue, she was last years winner!

I think you’ll agree that Sue looks so confident and radiant here. I loved this image so much that I used it for the Good Housekeeping and Woman and Home adverts. Sue tells me it’s been quite a thrill opening the magazine up and seeing herself looking back at her!

With literally hundreds of enteries it only seemed right to invite more Bombshells in. Each and everyone with their own Bombshell story of just how good they felt in their dress!

For me it really opened up the brand with many women able to express their Bombshell story and what their dress meant to them. It was so incredible to design this years collection by meeting these inspirational women.

It was super special for me to get to meet the faces behind the names. Like Bombshell customer Nikki who’s a nurse from Wales. Since then I’ve been on Facebook at the Bombshell HQ page. Which has been great as I get to chat with so many Bombshells now and share what’s going on at HQ. Plus of course to share your incredible photos. One picture of a stunning Mother of the Bride and her daughter which I posted yesterday has got nearly 500 likes in less than a day! If you’re not on Facebook already - why not join the Bombshells? It’s a lovely group x

Believe it or not Zoe was a bit shy of having her photo taken she said! I love this picture - it’s so much fun! Don't be shy  - you are in safe hands!

Meeting the fabulous Elsie was incredible. What a beautiful woman. Elsie’s daughter escorted her and what a wonderful woman she is too. It was really such a pleasure to meet each and every one.

Last time we photographed around 20 Bombshells in the end! Here’s Dee working her magic.

So for a chance to win a photoshoot at Bombshell, please send a photo of yourself in to me at katya@bombshellhq.com by the 12th of December. Entries will also be shared on the Bombshell HQ Facebook page.

This summer I fell head over heels in love. I became heart thumpingly enthralled with the folk art of canal art. Inky black kettles adorned by simplistic rose designs all picked out with clear white stitch detailing just really got me thinking......

What if I could make Canal Art Bombshell Tea Dress?
The Bombshell Tea Dress is one of my absolute favourite dresses. It's incredibly flattering with shirring on the back to create an hourglass shape and a sarong skirt to the front. Turned back cuffs give it a really charming 'to work' feeling.

It was time to search for an Artist...

    Boat Foray

In stepped Trina from Boat Foray. I explained what it was I wanted and sent up a sketch. I just loved all the mugs and jugs and coal scuttles that Trina painted. Painting on paper wasn't her usual medium - but she did a fantastic job.

Off to Lake Como, Italy for printing...

    Lake Como fabric printing

Once the layout had been approved it was time to print.

So excitingly - here they are and I hope you've enjoyed sharing my journey as much as I know you will wearing your dress!

Its a perfect example of how fabulous wrap dresses look. I love the length of Bombshells too. I like to wear dresses past the knee. I cut them pretty long to accommodate all heights as they are super easy to take up.

Here we have the Fit Flare Flatter dress in Cherry red. It doesn't come with this fabulous car! But it does come with the feel good factor. This dress has now sold through and is coming back this November. I might even add a pocket in the side seam as who doesn't love a dress with a pocket?

Mother of the bride dress dresses for wedding guests

Lovely Liberty silk crepe de chine dress in a hot red worn here with the Bombshell Twister complete with silk flowers in a matching fabric. Both Mother of the Bride and Bride look picture perfect. I adore this picture.

Mother of the bride dress dresses for wedding guests

Another beautiful Mother of the Bride. This time wearing the Silk Dupion Bombshell dress. We only make in tiny volumes and this dress is extra special made with silk we buy from an incredible family run business in Yorkshire. We call this shade Heron and I have yet to find anyone that does not look great in this shade of blue. This gorgeous Mother of the bride has chosen a pewter bag for the accessory and I think this works really well with the pearls too. Her daughter looks stunning and I am sure that this beautiful picture will be treasured forever.

Alex Polizzi looking gorgeous in her Bombshell Lemon Bomb Bomb print dress. I'm a huge fan or her show and am so delighted when I see her wearing a Bombshell dress. She always looks stylish and is super smart. I worked with her years ago on her trailers for the Hotel Inspector and was enthralled by how charming and funny she was. On another note I Also adore the long diamond earrings she wears! It's a good note - why shouldn't every day be a 'special day.' Bravo Alex.

Mother of the bride dress dresses for wedding guests

This lovely lady is called Lydia and boy does she look great in the Bombshell tea dress. I have always loved a tea dress but prefer to wear draping over the tummy to conceal. So I designed one with a fixed sarong and draping. Adding that extra layer is vital. This dress is a dream to wear. No zips. Just shirring at the back of the dress. This allows you to be gently nipped in at the waist creating a lovely hourglass shape. I adore 3/4 sleeves and after a trip to Charleston Farmhouse decided I wanted to add a rolled back sleeve type of look. This dress was cut with extreme precision by a lovely man who is a Saville Row Pattern Cutter. He really knows his tailoring and the dress is made with a lot of finesse! If you haven't yet tried the Bombshell Tea dress - do!

Mother of the bride dress dresses for wedding guests

This is a really fun picture and really shows the spirit of the Bombshell customer. Confident, fun and stylish.

This is a print called Carrie by Liberty and its a really interesting colour as it's a dark pink with both reds and oranges in. I love how she's styled it with nude shoes. I'm a huge fan of nude shoes. They are not only super useful, they make your legs look longer.

I love the red lipstick and black shoes with the Bombshell Fit Flare Flatter dress. It's been very popular and sold out fast! I have recut it and it will be out again Nov 2017. I can't wait - especially as I plan to add a pocket this time

    The Bombshell Guide to Weddings

    The Bombshell Guide to Weddings

White tie, lounge suits...So what does it all mean? With a growing trend for so many different weddings these days it's no wonder so many of us are in a spin. Here's my Bombshell guide to getting it right!

    What does white tie mean?

Ok so it doesn't get much more formal than this - ever.  Absolutely wear a full length gown. Not tall? Don't fear full length. Alterations to your perfect length make all the difference. Make sure you have a fitting with your chosen heel height on.

With footwear go for height and prioritise comfort. You'll want to create a long line. But you'll want to be able to walk unhindered. I personally adore the glamour of these events. It's so nostalgic of days gone by. Think Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren to name but a few. This is your time to really go for it on the glamour! He will be in tails with a white waistcoat and a bow tie or in military.

    What does black tie mean?

This is usually an evening wedding. Unless specified ladies may either wear a cocktail length dress or a ball gown i.e. A floor length dress. After 5pm men should always wear a tuxedo with a bow tie and black leather shoes.

    Black tie optional or formal

For this one - I'd say avoid a full length and opt for an on or past the knee style. Lace is an excellent option here.

Men can wear a suit or tuxedo. Equally ladies may wear a dressy suit or one piece i.e. a jumpsuit. But my Bombshell philosophy is that nothing feels as elegant as a beautifully cut dress.

    Morning suit

Think four weddings and a funeral Hugh grant.

Women think hats! Defiantly. Plus a past or to the knee dress. Often this might mean a traditional church wedding. Always cover arms in church.

    Lounge suit

Quite simply a suit with a tie for a man. For ladies again a to the knee or past the knee dress. This can often go hand in hand with a registry office wedding in town.

    Smart casual or semiformal

Ok so this is not dress down day at work. Jeans are a no. You should still opt for special fabrics such as silks of velvets. That show you have honoured the occasion.

A sports jacket and flannels for a guy or a linen suit is perfect.

    Casual

This can mean a floral dress and a little heel for you and a smart shirt and trousers for him. Shoes always - no trainers or sliders or flip flops!

Trousers suits are acceptable but I never look good in them personally so advise a dress!

    Cocktail attire

Think Claridges. Although when we think of a cocktail dress we thing LBD. Full length dresses are just as welcome here. Go for a glamorous yet elegant look. For him - black tie.

    Beach formal

Ok so obviously not too much flesh. Avoid heels. Wedges are a good option here. A linen suit and Panama hat perfect for him and a silk crepe de chine dress for you. Do cover shoulders and don't wear white unless the bride specifies it!

    Themed wedding

Always fills people with dread. Vintage style weddings are a fashionable choice which is good news!  Adding accessories like a  hat or gloves to a Bombshell dress makes for an easy adaptation.

    Christmas weddings

Think velvets and lace. Full length is good here as are sparkles. Tartan is always wonderful at Christmas time. As is red, providing the bride is not wearing red herself.

    Barn dance weddings

Complete with a ceilidh. Wear shoes you can dance in and go for a summer dress feel. Prints work beautifully with this theme. White shirt, rolled up sleeves and brogues is a good look for your man.

    Can YOU wear red?

    Can YOU wear red?

Can everyone really wear red? Yes, providing its pillar box red according to House of Colour. I wanted to put their claim and my best selling Bombshell dress to the test and thought what better way than to call in my Bombshells.

So what is it about a red that makes us feel so great? There's no doubt about it, it really does make you feel more confident. Every single woman who put the red Bombshell on during the shoot looked and felt amazing.

The science bit is that red dresses are proven to make us look and feel more attractive not only to the opposite sex but more importantly to ourselves!  Red really does change the way we feel.

One things for sure, there were a lot of happy Bombshells. Here is Bombshell customer Sarah from our shoot.
