Connect The Dots why We Love Polka Dots!

From Princess Diana... to Minnie Mouse; Kate Middleton to Kendal Jenner; Holly Willoughby to Sarah Jessica Parker; the most fabulous fashionable faces just can’t get enough of Polka Dots…and neither can we!
The perfect Polka Dot is so on trend that it eclipses any age, dress size or decade; creating a timeless and flawless look for every Bombshell. Whilst being steeped in history as far back as the medieval times; the Polka Dot saw a real resurgence to the forefront of fashion in the 1940s. Whilst Sinatra swooned with his first big hit, the 1940 ballad “Polka Dots and Moonbeams”, the Los Angeles Times advised stylish readers to invest in the polka dot fashion trend for the 1940 spring season; “You can sign your fashion life away on the polka-dotted line, and you’ll never regret it this season.” The humble Polka Dot was officially given the fashion seal of approval when Christian Dior debuted his “New Look” collection on 12th February 1947; which heavily featured dotted fabrics; firmly fixing their place as a fashion favourite.
But it isn’t all haute couture and catwalks; the Polka Dot is a fun trend for all! By June 1960, Brian Hyland had the world popping and bopping to his much-loved hit song “Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini.” The very next year, the Polka Dot print was immortalised forever more when Walt Disney introduced his leading lady, Minnie Mouse, in a brand new outfit; a red & white Polka Dot dress. This cemented the Polka Dot as not just a print for the discerning couture catwalks of the Paris elite, but also a fun fresh playful print that could be worn by all.

Princess Diana and Kate Middleton dazzle in black and white polka

Throughout the 80s and 90s, Carolina Herrera regularly showed designs doting on the divine Polka Dot print; constantly striving to find new, exciting and innovative ways to reimagine and reinterpret it. This kept the Polka Dot as a style staple across the decades; and firmly cemented it’s place as a go to trend for ladies who just didn’t do prints. The Polka Dot has seamlessly translated through time and managed to never get pinpointed to one decade or fashion designer; retaining its relevance, wearability and effortless appeal throughout the years.
The Polka Dot earned its Royal Warrant during the 1980s when Princess Diana dazzled the watching world in several spotted ensembles. The Polka Dot was a firm favourite of The Princess Of Wales and her wonderful wardrobe. Diana donned several dotted dresses throughout the 1980s, each oozing her effortless elegance, sublime chicness, and seamless style. The Princess found that Polka Dots provided her with a firm fashion friend upon which she could rely; and she grew to introduce her playful fun-loving nature to the print by experimenting with colour ways, sizes and accessories.
